The Financial Planning Association of Miami will present comprehensive educational sessions on financial planning at its 14th annual FPA of Miami Symposium.

The full-day event on Nov. 21 will bring some major national names to the Rusty Pelican on Key Biscayne. It is designed to educate financial planners, family office leaders, high-net worth individuals, accountants, wealth managers and attorneys.

The event had 140 attendees in 2018 and expects 150 this year, said FPA Miami president Jonathan G. Cameron (Left), a certified financial planner with CameronDowning.

The speaker lineup reflects the role of CFPs in helping quarterback the world of finance, Cameron said. As part of the membership of their organization, CFPs are required to provide transparency on compensation when recommending investments, although many CFPs work on a fee-only basis like Cameron to provide only advice.

See the gallery for the speaker lineup:

  • Rick Ferri, chartered financial analyst and founder of Rick Ferri LLC, whose topic, “The Education of an Index Investor,” reflects the popularity of passive investing.

  • John Salter, associate professor of financial planning, Texas Tech University, whose topic is “Hiring Your Firm’s NexGen Talent: Spotlight on University Degree Programs.” Cameron said Florida Atlantic University is one of the few universities offering financial planning degrees.

  • Rianka Dorsainvil, founder and president at Your Greatest Contribution, whose topic is “Increasing your Cultural Competency to Better Serve Clients.” She is a spokeswoman in the CFP Board Center for Financial Planning campaign to educate more women and minorities about the career of financial planning.
