The Covers 2017

Well-known business leaders and rising stars have been featured on SFBW’s covers during its first five years. One special cover honored the lifetime achievements of the late H. Wayne Huizenga.

  • January Brett Morris The COO of the Polo Club of Boca Raton has kept it cutting-edge with more than $25 million in renovations. The club has since invested another $25 million in improvements.

  • February Bernardo Fort-Brescia Fort-Brescia is principal of Arquitectonica, one of the world’s most acclaimed architectural firms. Arquitectonica is the 2019 winner of the American Prize for Architecture by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design.

  • March Michael Corcelli Corcelli has been a leader in the growth of the financial services field in South Florida as the founder and chairman of the Florida Alternative Investment Association. He also is managing member of Alexander Alternative Capital GP.

  • April Traci Lynn The founder and CEO of Traci Lynn Jewelry sells its products online and with a network of 35,000 representatives. The company opened a $3.4 million headquarters in Fort Lauderdale.

  • June Bill Perry and George LeMieux Gunster chairman LeMieux and managing shareholder and CEO Perry discussed how the firm had grown to nearly 400 lawyers in 13 offices across Florida. Recently, both were recognized in Florida Trend’s list of the 500 most influential Floridians.

  • July Alan Levan and Eugene Stearns Levan, the CEO of BBX Capital, and Stearns, his attorney, Eugene Stearns (also chairman of Stearns Weaver Miller) talked about the strategy that led to a rare victory against the SEC. Levan was able to resume being CEO after the successful defense.

  • August Teddy Morse Morse talked about changes in the automotive field and being the third-generation chairman and leader of Ed Morse Automotive Group, one of the state’s largest automotive dealers. In January 2019, his company acquired seven dealerships in the Dallas area.

  • September Phillip Frost The billionaire serial entrepreneur sold Key Pharma–ceuticals for $835 million and Ivax Corp. for $7.4 billion and talked about his numerous businesses, including Opko Health. The University of Miami in 2019 named its dermatology department the Dr. Phillip Frost Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery.

  • October Rachel Sapoznik The founder, CEO and president of Sapoznik Insurance is a female pioneer in the world of employee benefits and promoting workplace health. She continues to lead her company, and, in November 2019, was part of an SFBW Women’s Business Leader roundtable.

  • November Tyler Vernon The CEO of Biltmore Capital was profiled as part of a wave of financial service companies moving from the Northeast to South Florida. Vernon launched his company in 2007 after eight years at Merrill Lynch

  • December Craig Robins The founder and CEO of Dacra Development has played a major role in fueling the art and creative community scene in South Florida and the revitalization of the Design District. The company currently has 2 million square feet in real estate projects.
