  • iCryo opening iCryo Cryotherapy is opening locations in Fort Lauderdale and Miami. The company offers discounts on the franchise and royalty fees for first responders, veterans, active military and educators. Opening the Fort Lauderdale location are police officers Chris Gatti and Issac Helfner. Gatti will also open a Brickell location in Miami

  • Rising Tide recognized U.S. Senator Marco Rubio visited Rising Tide Car Wash in Margate and named the car wash the U.S. Senate Small Business of the Week. Founded in 2013, Rising Tide Car Wash is a social enterprise with the primary mission to employ persons with autism. There are two locations, in Parkland and Margate. 

  • Port Everglades project Avison Young has been tapped by CenterPoint Properties to provide project management and development services of the Port Everglades International Logistics Center, which will be composed of two logistics/industrial buildings totaling 296,207 square feet at Port Everglades. The project is scheduled for spring 2020 delivery. 

  • Metropolitan rebrands as Motif ArchCo Residential and Bluerock Real Estate Holdings have rebranded the former Metropolitan project as Motif. Motif will have 385 apartments and take up the entire block on the east side of North Andrews Avenue between Fifth and Sixth streets. Native Realty will market 25,000 square feet of ground floor retail and restaurant space.

  • Noah’s Ark for coral Nova Southeastern University’s Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography is participating in an effort to save coral reefs in conjunction with the Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Coastal office, Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. The idea is to help slow the continued spread of disease and saving “priority corals,” which include collecting numerous healthy corals that haven’t yet been affected and housing them in onshore coral nurseries.

  • Learn how to code Renowned coding school LaunchCode is coming to Deerfield Beach with funding to support 100 enrollees. The free sessions will be held at the Hillsboro Community Center, thanks to support from the city, the Jim Moran Foundation and the Batchelor Foundation. launchcode.org

  • Startup expo returns Sup-X, The Startup Expo, will return July 25 at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention Center. More than 1,000 attendees and 100 exhibitors are expected.   • Phone calls on the cheap Quadrant Holdings of Dania Beach has launched Hello Mobile, a prepaid wireless phone company with rates starting at $5 a month. Founder Issa Asad said beyond providing affordability, the service will address the issue of consumers who may not have a credit history or those living in rural areas lacking wireless stores. hellomobile.com

  • Share a car Getaround, a car-sharing application available in 300 cities worldwide, has launched in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. The platform lets people rent and drive cars owned by people nearby. The service uses a patented technology that enables keyless entry.

  • A cure from sharks? The Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation has received a $300,000 donation in support of shark genomic work being done at the Guy Harvey Research Institute at Nova Southeastern University. The institute recently announced that it has successfully decoded the entire white shark genome, which could have major implications for human health. Sharks’ genetic makeup makes them predisposed to low cancer rates, rapid wound healing and anti-aging characteristics.

  • Compass office opens Compass, a real estate technology company, is celebrating the opening of its office at 1200 E. Las Olas Blvd. Compass Fort Lauderdale has grown to more than 120 agents and includes the Barkin-Gilman Group, Jonathan Keith Team, Josh Dotoli, the Michelle Howland Group and the Giancarlo Cuffia Team.
